Many people wonder about their family history at one time or another.

There are photographs and family lore, but what is the true story?

Genealogy is the study of individuals in a family network (or, more simply, family history).  The importance of genealogy to each person is different, but ultimately it is all about connecting with people -  those who have gone before us or those who are still with us.  It can give us a sense of self, and it can make us feel good to interact with people, and to know we are not alone.

Learning genealogy is also learning about where you come from and knowing you belong to a community, meeting new relatives, and rekindling and maintaining relationships with relatives you have known all your life.  Personal histories are the stories that put "meat on the bones" of genealogical research.  They go hand in hand!

Every person, alive or dead, has a story to share … if you’re willing to listen.

“In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we come from.  Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning.  No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness.”
